Hello readers,
I hope the summer is treating you all well. July was a weird one for me, it somehow went fast and slow at the same time. Near the beginning of the month I went to my first ever flea market, and it was a lot of fun. There was so much to look at from furniture, to smaller items, glass, toys, and so much more. It was fun to just walk from stall to stall seeing what everyone had to offer. I found some great things, and even bought something myself.
Right at the beginning I spotted this pair and loved them. Shame I had no use for them!
Later on I found this piece which I thought was really fun and quirky. It was quite a big figure too!
One of my favourite things that I found was this hannya mask, which unfortunately was out of my price range. This is one of the masks worn in noh theatre. Of all the things I thought I’d see, this is definitely unexpected.
Right at the very end of all the stalls, my eyes caught a familar pattern and I honed right in on the item. Pulling it from the rack, I found a burnt-orange/off-red kimono with a sakura pattern. It was amazing, and easily matches a haori I already owned, so of course I bought it. I hope to feature it some time in the future, once I have a nice obi to go with it. And, I didn’t expect to find a kimono at the flea market either!
For July I have spent a lot of the time editing an anthology called A Queer Kind of Magic for Worldsmyths where my story Of Spells and Love will feature. I always find editing other people’s work so beneficial for myself as it helps me realise in my own writing where I can improve. So, now when I start editing Tales of Yamato, not only will my mind be in editing mode, but it has had some practice!
Alongside editing, I have also been writing some of Unbound by the Sea, which is so different to write, in a good way.
On Ream
This month I have shared chapters 6 and 7 of Unbound by the Sea and the touches are getting more frequent now… Who knows where they will lead.

Tales of Yamato
Not much to add to here this month, but just you wait, next month I should have much more to talk about!
In the meantime though, how about being one of the first to get a sneak peek at the full front cover. This won’t be going out on social media just yet, this is a benefit of being a newsletter subscriber! What do you think?
Once I have the whole document edited, I’ll be able to show you the full cover (front, spine, and back) which will be how the physical copies will look like.
Want to find new authors and/or books to try?
