Character Profile: Susanoo
There is a naïvety to Susanoo as he hasn’t left the heavens to explore, and I hoped to help the reader explore alongside him.
Susanoo is a tough god to write about. He’s held onto a secret since he became and it’s been eating him alive for so long. He’s denied himself so much, that it’s no wonder he snapped one day. Every action comes with a consequence and no doubt he’ll be paying for a long time. Let’s learn more about him.
Name: Susanoo
Name with honorifics: Susanoo-no-mikoto (須佐之男命)
Kanji and kana: 須佐之 - すさのお [soo-sa-nooh]
Deity of: Most prominently the seas, but also storms, fields, harvest, marriage, and love.
Inspirations: I read a tale about how the god Susanoo fought with his own soul and immediately I was inspired. For his personality I imagined how someone would form their life and thoughts while also hiding a huge secret. There is a naïvety to Susanoo as he hasn’t left the heavens to explore, and I hoped to help the reader explore alongside him.
First seen in: Broken Waves where we see Susanoo make many huge mistakes.
What I like about him: He’s straightforward and was absolutely fun to write when he lost it.
What is fun or hard about writing him: Being able to pick out behaviours which are based on hiding or ignoring his soul fighting him and what is well and truly him. And on the opposite side, making sure when his soul is in control, being able to make that distinction to readers.
Typical place to find him: In his room reading a book or watching the lands below from his window.
MBTI: ISTJ-T, The Logistician
They say and say what they mean, and when they commit to doing something, they make sure to follow through. With their responsible and dependable nature, it might not be so surprising that ISTJ personalities also tend to have a deep respect for structure and tradition. ISTJs rarely hesitate to take responsibility for their actions and choices. They are quick to own up to their mistakes, admitting the truth even if it doesn’t make them look good or if it makes other people uncomfortable.
