Hello readers,
Welcome to July, where it is finally hot. Both the UK and US are struggling atm with the heat and geez do I know about it. The first half of June was going well and then bam. I enjoy the heat normally, it does wonders for my chronic pain, however UK homes like to cook us as they retain heat so my poor mind has been melted into a puddle. Unfortunately this has meant my work has become real slow as I haven’t been really functional but I’ve been doing my best.
So, what I have I been doing?
Well, I went to a vintage market in June. The last one I spoke about was a flea market, which is similar but this had more expensive and collectable items for sale. I was hoping for Japanese things, but it really wasn’t my luck. There was, however, a whole bunch of Chinese things. One of my favourite finds were these incense pots. I really loved how pretty they are, and I’m sure they would have been super cool to own… but alas, I cannot smell, so incense is wasted on me.
At the same event I also got to see a piece of Japanese armour which was nice, and very unexpected. I’ve seen a whole set before at the British Museum though that’s hard to get super close to as it’s surrounded by glass.
June also brought me a package from Kickstarter… I stumbled over some playing cards which were tanuki themed and fell in love immediately. And not only that, they had hyakki yagyou themed cards too. Hyakki yagyou is the demon night parade where all the yokai come out and I absolutely love it. So of course I had to buy those too!
I have a pic of them up on my social media already, but you’ll be seeing more of them around too as I’ll be including them in photos.
Updates
I’ve been toying with the idea of writing articles again, though this time at a slower rate. Last time I was posting them was fun, but I burnt myself out so fast that I was unable to write more. So, hopefully that’s something else to see soon!
It’s time for a sale! You can now grab the Tales of Yamato ebook at a discount for a limited time. It’ll be alongside many other authors, so a great chance to check out new books! You can find them all over on Smashwords at: https://www.smashwords.com/shelves/promos
On Ream
Over on Ream for this month I have posted another chapter of Unbound by the Sea. We’re all the way to chapter 17 now! This one isn’t the most interesting unfortunately, as people are meeting other people… but it’ll be important for later!
This book sure has me working hard as I venture into new territories. I’m surprised it’s still going well as I’m used to shorter pieces. And I’m not even half way yet either. I am worried when it comes to editing this beast though, it’s going to be tough!
Unbound by the Sea is a queer romantasy I am currently writing, set in a land inspired by Asian countries such as Japan, China, and Korea. Interested? Go check it out over on Ream!
Other Projects
As I’m a wide author, I’m always on the lookout for trusted places to sell my books. I want to give everyone a range of places as a lot of people hate using Amazon (I wouldn’t use them if I didn’t pretty much have to). I’ve recently come across the site Curios which is a site not only for authors, but others creatives too. So, now you’ll find my books there on top of all the usual places.
I’ve also bundled up two stories from Tales of Yamato (Hirotoshi’s stories) and am selling them separately, in case anyone wants just his POV. This one is up on Curios and itch.io.
In future I might also do this for Hotaka, who has 4 stories.
Want to find new authors and/or books to try?
Each month I am sharing books by other indie authors, most of the time free books. I want to help other authors like me be seen by as many people as possible.
For July, I have Fantasy and Sci-Fi books, all free! Come take a look: https://books.bookfunnel.com/julyfantasyscifi/3nzwf1ox1y
Or how about becoming an ARC reader? Mave Hathaway is looking for readers in their upcoming book Death of a Wolf.
In a world where the Gods like to play with their mortal subjects, can Lucian Ronnett rely on trust to navigate the murky kingdom of his birth?

Things I am reading/watching/listening to right now
Recently I have been taking a break and having fun with a game called Hotel Architect. It’s a simple management game where you create and run a hotel, but I’ve always loved these types of games. It’s been nice to do something different so that I can take a break.
It’s such a cute and fun style, and although it’s currently in early access, there’s still plenty to do.

See you again in the next newsletter.
