Hello readers,
April whizzed by and now we’re already into May. So what did April bring?
Well, after finding those tanuki statues last month… this month I found real tanuki (they’re also known as racoon dogs). Aren’t they adorable? I wanted to keep watching them! I think I heard one vocalise too and it was this cute little squeak.
Not only that, but in another trip, I found tanuki plushies too. Of course I had to buy them (coming soon to my social media posts), so soon I’ll be overrun by tanuki. And to top it off I also backed on kickstarter some tanuki japanese cards (cause I can’t get enough tanuki apparently), which also includes other yokai too. I’m looking forward to getting them and showing them off to you all.
On Ream
For this month I’ve had a little change (hence why there is no image this time). For this month I have posted two chapters of my newest project (which I’ll talk about in a minute) called The Silver Mer of Silvermere. But don’t worry, Unbound by the Sea will be back soon, probably next month.
Interested? Go check it out over on Ream!
Unbound by the Sea
Writing has been hard for me this year as I have had an intense time (to say the least). I’ve been trying my best, however Life always finds a way to be a pain. Therefore, I haven’t managed to write much more to Unbound by the Sea, but I am still actively working on it. This is a large project and one I know will take a long time, but I want to also get it out and show you asap!
For new subscribers: Unbound by the Sea is a romantasy I am currently writing, set in a land inspired by Asian countries such as Japan, China, and Korea.
Other Projects
Recently, to kickstart my brain into writing more (as I have been struggling) I’ve started a new project. This is different to a project I have teased before (oh no, I’m turning into one of those authors!), however this should also be a shorter project than everything else going on.
The Silver Mer of Silvermere is a M/M romantasy set in the fantasy world of Rystell. The area of Silvermere (and the nearby Lace Marshes) is inspired by English fantasy, and will feature Quinten Wolf, my MC who wants to save his beloved library which has run out of funding.
This is planned to be a novella (which I know is what I said about Unbound by the Sea, and look how that turned out…) so, if things go well, it won’t be long at all until it comes out. I’ll update you in the next newsletter!
Want to find new authors and/or books to try?
Every month I like to share books from other indie authors who are trying to make it also. For May I have Fantasy and Sci-Fi books to share, so come and have a browse through 150 different books, all free: https://books.bookfunnel.com/scififantasy202505/qner1y084r
Things I am reading/watching/listening to right now
Thankfully this month I don’t have a song which has been really stuck in my head, though nor have I been watching anything much (except of a ton of BeardMeatsFood) and reading is in a slump. So, time to turn to games, Genshin Impact. This song has been properly released by Hoyoverse and I have been listening to it a ton as this character is one of my favourites. Genshin is a game that I love a lot, and play every day. So far no influences have reached my stories (afaik!) but I’m sure it’ll only be a matter of time… In the mean time, please enjoy this short very melancholy but dramatic piece of music.
Thank you for reading this far. Want to chat? Comment on the substack post or even send me an email. I’d love to hear from you.
See you again in the next newsletter.
