Welcome to my Substack, I’m Odessa Silver, an author who is from and lives in the UK. For the majority I write fantasy stories, although from time to time the genre slips a little depending on what inspires me.
Currently I am really inspired by Japan and yokai, and so I am writing a whole bunch of short stories set within the historic Muromachi period of Japan where yokai, gods, and magic are at the forefront.
My debut novel is Tales of Yamato, an anthology of those short stories. In future I will be working on a second book of this too.
I am also working on a second novel, Unbound by the Sea, a romantasy set in a land inspired by different Asian countries.
I post my stories on Ream for early access to subscribers (and also have some which are follower exclusive—but following is free!) and later move most of them onto serialisation sites, and, of course, right here on Substack. I have a masterlist of every story which I have, or am posting, and where you can find it.
Here on my Substack I also have articles about the themes and Japanese culture seen in my stories, and how I approach writing mythology. I also post a monthly newsletter for anyone who is interested in what I have been doing during the month, along with some freebies and more.
Projects?
Tales of Yamato (including book 2)
Unbound by the Sea
Not Quite Dead Enough, a story about the personification of death who just wants to go around taking the lives that are hers… only to be thwarted by the personification of life. You can read that on my Ream page or in Myths, Legends, & Dreams.
All For You, a short story from the perspective of a stalker who doesn’t realise the truth of what’s going on. This can be read in Darkness & Moonlight.
Of Spells and Love, a short story about a woman who thinks she is broken for not feeling attraction, and how she learns she isn’t. You can read that on my Ream page.
I’m always happy to hear from my subscribers or anybody really. Leave comments or email me, and I’ll respond.
